evening concert: WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING / RUBBER BUS / MAZENTA Z
While We Were Sleeping is the electronic and experimental moniker of Guy Schneerson. Born from the vibrant Brighton underground, the project is defined by a commitment to the ephemeral; to date, he has never repeated a performance, ensuring each show exists as a singular, unrepeatable dialogue between artist, gear, and room. The Sonic Philosophy The music of While We Were Sleeping lives at the fringes. Rather than adhering to a single lane, Guy explores the friction between genres—where dreamy ambient collapses into harsh noise, and psychedelic electronica bleeds into post-pandemic disco. Each performance is preceded by a rigorous "creative reset." Every set begins with an empty slate, moving from conceptual brainstorming to technical experimentation, resulting in a setup and soundscape specifically engineered for the moment. Selected History & Performances Since debuting in 2014 at a BEEP (Brighton Electronic and Experimental Musicians) festival, the project has remained a staple of the UK experimental scene. Notable appearances include: • High-Profile Supports: Opening for GLOK (Andy Bell of Ride/Oasis) and performing at Nanocluster alongside Immersion (Malka Spigel and Colin Newman) and Laetitia Sadier. • Festivals & Curations: Frequent appearances at the Brighton Modular including the Festival (Attenborough Centre), The Draw to Perform Festival (Phoenix Art Space), and the Brighton Yuri’s Night Space Party. • Experimental Pillars: Regular sets for long-standing institutions like Spirit of Gravity, Splitting the Atom, and Kosmische Night at The Rose Hill. Beyond the Sound Guy Schneerson’s creative output is fueled by a DIY ethos. When not performing, he is often found building bespoke synthesizers and guitar pedals, experimenting with open-source software, or creating video art. His work is deeply grounded in a tactile connection to the world—whether that involves woodworking, roasting coffee, or the simple, grounding act of listening to birds and hugging trees. He is also found of Cats, Dogs and People (especially nice ones).
RUBBER BUS originally formed in Brighton in the early 1990s and shared international stages with the likes of Transglobal Underground, Loop Guru, Hawkwind, Here & Now and many more. In the mid-90s they released a series of cassettes and a full album Take It Easy – which was re-released on cd by The Slightly Off Kilter Label in 2021 – and contributed tracks to several compilation albums, most notably the infamous Music For Coffeeshops comp on Dreamtime alongside Porcupine Tree, Astralasia, Ship Of Fools and Back To The Planet in 1996. Pre-empting the reformation of the band, in 2017 TSOKL re-issued Apollo 8 as a lathe-cut vinyl 7” with a brand new dub mix on the b-side. This was followed by the track Spaceman as a download only release, two eps of new studio material; Dank Ocean and Dry In Shade and 2019’s live collaboration with Andy Roid; Rubberoidbus.
RUBBER BUS have been invited to perform at KozFest, Visual Radio Arts in Devizes, Glastonbury PsychFest, the Woodbridge Ambient Music Festival, New Avalon Ballroom, Glastonbury Assembly Rooms, Semley Music Festival, Brighton’s Real Music Club and for London’s Resonance 104FM.

BEE REIKI TRIO (Steve Beresford / Faradena Afifi / Paul Khimasia Morgan)
WILL MONTGOMERY
AL STRACHAN & OTTI ALBIETZ
Bee Reiki by the ‘Bee Reiki Trio' of Steve Beresford, Paul Khimasia Morgan and Faradena Afifi is their debut CD on Discus Records. The trio initially met on Zoom as a result of Lockdown and from those beginnings decided they wanted to record a studio album together. On the day of recording, Faradena was outside doing her T'ai Chi warm up and noticed a large white-tailed bumblebee lying in a puddle. After moving the bee out of the water, she did some Reiki on it to amazing results…the bee flew off in joyful spirals into the blue sky! The exuberance generated from the successful treatment, in combination with enjoying the egalitarian creative process between the now great friends, catalysed this distinctive album. Steeped in nature, listening, experimentation, playfulness and companionship, this unique sonic journey is not to be missed.
Spontaneously created improvised music from three experienced and very different practitioners of the music - string player Faradena Afifi, pianist Steve Beresford and guitarist Paul Khimasia Morgan. The album has a strong sense of narrative over and above "just" instrumental interaction. Here we find voices, strings, keys and electronics combining to paint a sound picture in where unexpected combinations and mysterious shifts of direction leave the listener second guessing what might happen next.
Faradena Afifi: viola, violin, drumkit and voice | Steve Beresford: piano, electronics and toys | Paul Khimasia Morgan: guitar body and electronics

TERESA HACKEL & PAUL KHIMASIA MORGAN
HÁKARL
The recorder player Teresa Hackel, born in Berlin, is based in Switzerland since 2005. Her focus is free improvisation and she is keen to search for strange and unconventional sounds on the different types of the recorder. In her playing she values listening – there is no unnecessary sound, just the music that comes by itself.
Teresa Hackel was awarded the 3rd Prize at the Concours Nicati for interpreters of contemporary music in Bern. In 2018 the CD “Solare” was released with pieces of Fausto Romitelli, in 2022 she released the CD “Zustandsformen” with the guitar player Karin Rüdt. The Aargauer Kuratorium has awarded Teresa Hackel with a scholarship and a stay in London from July to December 2024. She has worked collaboratively with Caroline Kraabel, Sue Lynch, Eiko Yamada, Tony Hardie-Bick, Tansy Spinks, Adrian Northover, Ivor Kallin, Pascal Marzan, Douglas Benford and many others.

Hákarl is the longstanding solo project of Kev Nickells. In it he currently plays modal improvisations with, hopefully, a degree of élan and panache. Recent musical daydreaming vacillates around tuning systems but let's not say 'microtonal' because the world's big enough to not need that.

WRONG COTES
RUBBER BUS
FAULT THROWER
Their new release; Hipping The Splatom is the first live album from Rubber Bus since VRA in 2022 and was recorded in their home town at Brighton’s Green Door Store. Their latest studio album, Welcome To Karmic City is available now.
Since reforming after a twenty-year hiatus in 2019, RUBBER BUS are now based in South of England with original members Saul Yarg (electronics/vocals) and Just George (guitar loops) plus synth wizard Andy Roid (Entropy Zero, The Anarchetypes, ex-Here & Now) and King Razor (GRUPPE!) on bass and electronics. Guest musicians for live appearances include Gregg McKella (Paradise 9, The Glissando Guitar Orchestra) on American tin clarinet, wordsmiths Daniel Spicer (The Wire, Repeater Books), Tim Hawthorn (The Anarchetypes, Invisible Opera Company of Tibet), guitarist Shankara Andy Bole (Dark Zen Kollectiv, ex-Daevid Allen band) and percussionists Nick Raybould (Thought Bubble), Michael James (Kalima) and Tony TwoDogs (Dreamcatcher). This current version of the band has a new emphasis on ambient space while still utilizing dub-influenced and psychedelic electronics, beats and fx.
Writing in The Wire magazine, Byron Coley described their 2020 album Return To Reason as:
“…an interesting handle on live electronics…early 60’s European electronic music…and a smidgen of Gong…”
